Training Programs
Hello Columbus and Phenix area dog owners!
I’m thrilled you’re here on our website to learn more about our dog boarding, daycare, and training.
I know you’ve got various training and boarding options so I’ll tell you how we’re different than other dog trainers and boarding businesses in the area.
Let’s be honest…
There are a ton of places that offer basic obedience training or basic group classes for your dog training needs.
And there are a bunch of bargain boarding options as well.
That’s fine and I’m not even here to speak ill of that.
But what we have noticed over the years that we’ve been in business is a certain type of client that wants something different and unique.
They aren’t the type of dog owner that’s happy with what you get after paying a couple hundred dollars for a basic group dog training class.
In fact, the thing I hear more often than not is, “Yeah, those classes were okay. They taught my dog to sit for a treat.”
Hey, sitting for a treat is fine.
But most dog owners in the area can train that on their own.
What MOST dog owners want, we’ve found, is not just simple basics of ‘sit’ and ‘come’ for a treat.
They want to be able to go places with their dog.
They want trips down to the river, they want enjoyable and drama-free walks, they want to hit the farmer’s market on the weekend with their dog, they want their friends to come over to their house and NOT have their dog go crazy when the doorbell rings.
They want to go to that outdoor cafe with their dog, they want the camping trips with a dog who isn’t chasing a deer and getting lost.
They want it all.
A dog who happily listens no matter where you go and no matter the distraction.
That isn’t easy to do.
And it isn’t happening from a basic dog training course with 10 other dogs in some field.
But let’s even go one step further…
When they go out of town they don’t want to leave their dog with untrained and inexperienced staff at a dirty boarding kennel.
They want to leave their dog with a team of dog professionals who are trainers and have training backgrounds to make sure that dogs can be kept safely and securely and happy while their owners are gone.
You don’t find this very often.
Most dog boarding places are full of inexperienced, underqualified staff who, likely, love dogs, but aren’t prepared for what it takes to manage a lot of dogs from a training perspective.
And that’s how Dog Gone Good Dog Trainers was born.
We started this thing to help families.
Families that have a lot going on.
They’ve got their work, activities, hobbies, weekend soccer games, dance class, karate, and, hopefully, a little outdoors time. Busy families that need a training and boarding place they can count on.
But families and people who want their dog to FIT IN to that life…rather than a dog that constantly needs to take a backseat because his or her behavior is just too much.
Does this sound like you?
Then we should definitely talk.
3 Week Board and Train Program
This program is for the busy family that wants a trained dog but may not have the time to teach the dog.
It is also for the dog that has some behavioral problems that need to be addressed.
The dog will stay with the trainer for 3 weeks.
During that time they will learn to listen to commands and learn proper doggy manners.
After the training the dog, our focus shifts to teaching the owners.
We want to make sure you can implement the changes needed to continue the newly learned behaviors.
You will have 2 private lessons to make sure you are comfortable with the training and the tools.
The first is a 2 hour "Go Home" session where you learn the techniques used and get hands on teaching with the tools.
The second session is to answer any remaining questions and make sure you understand the program.
Afterwards you will continue to have support via phone and e-mail as needed for the life the dog.
It is our mission to make sure your dog succeeds.
So, what exactly will your dog be doing during his/her stay?
From the first moment we meet your dog, we will be begin strict rules and boundaries. This covers behaviors like whining, jumping, barking, lunging on the leash, nipping, issues in the crate, and other manners.
We teach basic obedience commands in order to help build a respectful relationship.
Your dog will learn the basics of walking on the leash, sit/stay, down/stay, place and come/recall. We utilize each of these commands in our general day-to-day activities in order to add clear structure to their lifestyle.
Our e-collar program is state-of-the-art.
Everything is done on a low level -
so low that most humans can't even feel it. It is truly one of the most humane methods of communication with a dog that is available.
We do everything we can to empower you with the knowledge and tools necessary to live happily ever after with your dog!
This program includes five full days of training. You will drop your dog off on a Sunday and pick up the following Saturday. They spend the week with us. During the week your dog will learn leash manners and how to have a calmer mindset. We will address minor behavior problems. On Saturday you will be scheduled to come and have a hands-on training lesson. The hands-on lesson will be about 1 hour. Your dog will learn to walk calmly next to you and to stay on their bed when it’s needed.
Potty Animals
Having trouble with your new puppy? Want to jump start the potty training and other puppy behavior? Let us help to get your new puppy on the right track. This is a 7-day boarding program (your dog will stay with us for 7 days) focusing on house, crate, and leash training, developing a scheduled feeding and potty break routine, and to ultimately create a calm and focused puppy. Potty Animals is the program to help kick start a lifetime of good behavior.
At the end of the training we will have a 1-2 hour consultation/training lesson.
We will give you a custom potty, feeding and training schedule during your hands-one pick up lesson.
(This program has worked for many dogs but we cannot guarantee they will never have accidents.
It is merely a perfect starting point.)
This program is for dogs under 5 months old. Must have 1st round of shots and okay from your vet to take your puppy to public places.
3 Private Lessons
This program is designed for dogs 9
- 20 weeks.
Because we begin training the
puppy at a young age we will prevent bad behaviors from starting.
We will discuss everything puppy. We want to set you and your puppy up for a lifetime friendship.
It is important to start young to avoid pitfalls and to create a happy, confident dog.

Intro to Basic Obedience
This program is for the owner that wants to be involved in the daily process of training and has the extra time to invest.
This will allow the dog to stay in your home and you do the training.
You will meet with the trainer once a week for approximately 1 hour per session for 5 weeks.
You will be taught training techniques to practice and have "homework" between each lesson.
You will learn how to be the leader and get your dog to look to you for guidance.
Your dog will learn basic obedience but more importantly they will learn to be more respectful and listen to your commands.
We show you how to add structure to your daily activities so your dog has a clear understand of what is expected of them.
Often times dogs get in to trouble simply from not understanding what they should or should not do.
This program requires more of a time commitment from you but if you enjoy working with your dog and are able to enforce the new rules, this program is the one for you.
This program does not include e-collar training
When I talk about leash training I’m talking about the dog owners who are frustrated by their walks.
Maybe their dog pulls or barks at other dogs.
Perhaps their dog gets in front of them or isn’t focused and paying attention.
What they REALLY want is to just enjoy a walk in their neighborhood without pulling and lunging.
They want to be able to go into the vet’s office and have their dog calmly follow and sit while they check in at the desk. Then as they go take a seat in the waiting room they want to ask their dog to lie down and stay instead of lunging to get at the other dogs and cats.
They want to go to the pet store and have it NOT be embarrassing with a dog who is pulling, grabbing items off the shelves, and not listening.
They want to go to an outdoor cafe and have their dog lie down calmly next to the table instead of jumping on waiters or barking at other dogs that happen to be there.
And they want to go to a Farmer’s Market and have their dog right by their side, NOT jumping on the produce table and NOT barking and lunging at people or dogs.
What they really want is the ability to go anywhere with their dog and KNOW their dog is going to behave and not cause problems.
If you’ve ever had a dog pulling, lunging or worse, try to bite someone, you’re going to relate to this next part.
You see, dog owners who love using our training are dog owners who want to do the simple act of BEING in their neighborhood with their dog.
Maybe they’re doing some gardening, maybe they’re loading the dog up in the car, or maybe they’re just grabbing the mail.
But they want the freedom that comes with knowing that being in the front yard, their dog ISN’T going to pull or chase off after the first cat or dog or squirrel that he sees.
They want to know that if they go to the park they can control their dog. They’re going to stay close, and if they DO get distracted, they can use a single command and get their dog’s attention again.
Or maybe they want more. They want to go down to the lake, go boating, go on a hike or camping trip and they want their dog to come along and KNOW that she’s going to stay close, and not be embarrassing, and that their outings will go wonderfully.
Dog MANNERS can be a broad term.
But think about your dog, think of all the things you love about him, and now think of the things that make it harder to live with him…
I’m talking about stuff like jumping, chewing, nipping/mouthing, barking, whining, getting in the trash, freaking out when the doorbell rings…
How many of those things does your dog do?
What would life be like if you had your dog’s wonderful character and personality WITHOUT those manners issues?
It would probably be pretty great, right?
State of mind is a big one.
We see some dogs are too anxious and that leads them to bark and lunge at other dogs or people.
Often aggressively.
Or maybe the opposite, they’re SOOOO scared that they actually run away and cower from the things that scare them.
Our training is uniquely designed to help build confidence for dogs that are anxious, aggressive, or reactive.
But many dogs don’t have those issues.
But they do have issues with impulse control.
They have a state of mind where controlling their urges is tough!
They get so hyped up or excited by distractions that they can’t contain themselves.
So be honest…
For starters, I want you to not stress about it.
You’re a good dog owner. It’s not like bad dog owners come to dog training websites to look for help.
You just don’t have the right tools and the right techniques and methods right now to help your dog overcome these issues.
But we do.
Our Dog Gone Good Dog programs are unique, unlike any other dog training program in the Columbus/Phenix City area.
We can help you go through each one of these four areas and start ticking off the boxes of the bad behavior and putting new and good behavior in its place.
Seriously.
You may have been dealing with behavior you don’t love for weeks, months, or even years.
Even if it’s been years it doesn’t matter.
Any age, any breed, any problem, our system is uniquely qualified to help overcome these challenges and more.
